What is CPT file?

CPT is a file created by PHOTO-PAINT software tool. CPT files store bitmap images (just like BMP files). However, CPT file contains some additional image information, such as masks. Layers, transparency settings, embedded objects, etc. CPT files also store project history.

How to open file with CPT extension?

Problems with accessing CPT may be due to various reasons. Fortunately, most common problems with CPT files can be solved without in-depth IT knowledge, and most importantly, in a matter of minutes. We have prepared a listing of which will help you resolve your problems with CPT files.

Step 1. Install CorelDRAW software

Problems with opening and working with CPT files are most probably having to do with no proper software compatible with CPT files being present on your machine. Step 2. Verify the you have the latest version of CorelDRAW

If you already have CorelDRAW installed on your systems and CPT files are still not opened properly, check if you have the latest version of the software. Software developers may implement support for more modern file formats in updated versions of their products. The reason that CorelDRAW cannot handle files with CPT may be that the software is outdated. The latest version of CorelDRAW should support all file formats that where compatible with older versions of the software.

Step 3. Associate Corel Photo-Paint Document files with CorelDRAW

If you have the latest version of CorelDRAW installed and the problem persists, select it as the default program to be used to manage CPT on your device. The process of associating file formats with default application may differ in details depending on platform, but the basic procedure is very similar.

Change the default application in Windows

• Right-click the CPT file and choose Open with option
• Click Choose another app and then select More apps option
• Finally select Look for another app on this PC, point to the folder where CorelDRAW is installed, check the Always use this app to open CPT files box and conform your selection by clicking OK button

Change the default application in Mac OS

• From the drop-down menu, accessed by clicking the file with CPT extension, select Information
• Open the Open with section by clicking its name
• From the list choose the appropriate program and confirm by clicking Change for all....
• If you followed the previous steps a message should appear: This change will be applied to all files with CPT extension. Next, click the Continue button to finalize the process.

Step 4. Check the CPT for errors

You closely followed the steps listed in points 1-3, but the problem is still present? You should check whether the file is a proper CPT file. Problems with opening the file may arise due to various reasons.

1. Check the CPT file for viruses or malware

If the CPT is indeed infected, it is possible that the malware is blocking it from opening. Immediately scan the file using an antivirus tool or scan the whole system to ensure the whole system is safe. If the CPT file is indeed infected follow the instructions below.

2. Verify that the CPT file’s structure is intact

If the CPT file was sent to you by someone else, ask this person to resend the file to you. The file might have been copied erroneously and the data lost integrity, which precludes from accessing the file. When downloading the file with CPT extension from the internet an error may occurred resulting in incomplete file. Try downloading the file again.

3. Verify whether your account has administrative rights

Sometimes in order to access files user need to have administrative privileges. Log out of your current account and log in to an account with sufficient access privileges. Then open the Corel Photo-Paint Document file.

4. Make sure that the system has sufficient resources to run CorelDRAW

If the systems has insufficient resources to open CPT files, try closing all currently running applications and try again.

5. Check if you have the latest updates to the operating system and drivers
