What is MPO file?

MPO file extension was created by The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) for storing pictures taken with a photocamera equipped with multiple stereoscopic lens system, such as Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D series. MPO file contains two 2D images in JPG format that are combined to created a single 3D image. Each file can also contain metadata.

MPO (Multi Picture Object) files are used for viewing images on devices that support 3D technology, usually on 3D TV. Images stored as MPO files can be converted to anaglyph image (stereoscopic 3D digital image) with a stereoscopic image processing software, and viewed by using special 3D glasses.
