What is NFV file?

File formats with the extension .NFV allow the Netflix application to store downloaded video movies by the user. These files enable offline video playback through the app. They are encrypted to prevent watching without the proper program outside of a subscription.

Downloading NFV files in Netflix

How to open file with NFV extension?

Problems with accessing NFV may be due to various reasons. What is important, all common issues related to files with NFV extension can be resolved by the users themselves. The process is quick and doesn’t involve an IT expert. The list below will guide you through the process of addressing the encountered problem.

Step 1. Get the Netflix

The most common reason for such problems is the lack of proper applications that supports NFV files installed on the system. The solution is straightforward, just download and install Netflix. Above you will find a complete listing of programs that support NFV files, classified according to system platforms for which they are available. One of the most risk-free method of downloading software is using links provided by official distributors. Visit Netflix website and download the installer.

Step 2. Update Netflix to the latest version

If the problems with opening NFV files still occur even after installing Netflix, it is possible that you have an outdated version of the software. Check the developer’s website whether a newer version of Netflix is available. It may also happen that software creators by updating their applications add compatibility with other, newer file formats. This can be one of the causes why NFV files are not compatible with Netflix. Step 3. Set the default application to open NFV files to Netflix

• Choose the Open with entry from the file menu accessed by right-mouse clicking on the NFV file
• Click Choose another app and then select More apps option
• To finalize the process, select Look for another app on this PC entry and using the file explorer select the Netflix installation folder. Confirm by checking Always use this app to open NFV files box and clicking OK button.

• Right-click the NFV file and select Information
• Open the Open with section by clicking its name
• Select Netflix and click Change for all...
• A message window should appear informing that This change will be applied to all files with NFV extension. By clicking Continue you confirm your selection.

Step 4. Ensure that the NFV file is complete and free of errors

You closely followed the steps listed in points 1-3, but the problem is still present? You should check whether the file is a proper NFV file. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.

1. Check the NFV file for viruses or malware

If the file is infected, the malware that resides in the NFV file hinders attempts to open it. Immediately scan the file using an antivirus tool or scan the whole system to ensure the whole system is safe. If the scanner detected that the NFV file is unsafe, proceed as instructed by the antivirus program to neutralize the threat.

2. Ensure the file with NFV extension is complete and error-free

If the NFV file was sent to you by someone else, ask this person to resend the file to you. It is possible that the file has not been properly copied to a data storage and is incomplete and therefore cannot be opened.
