What is SAT file?

SAT file format is used by 3D ACIS Modeler software. SAT files store 3D geometry data in plain text format.

SAT file are used for exchanging 3D data between various modeling environments, such as 3D animation software or software used in shipping industry. Geometry data is used also for non-sequential modeling of objects, for example, for modeling lighting systems or light scattering. SAT format stores data as ASCII text, i.e. as plain text. SAT file structure isn’t complicated, and the file may be viewed using any standard text editor. A binary version of SAT format, called SAB, also exists.

How to open file with SAT extension?

Being unable to open files with SAT extension can be have various origins. Step 1. Download and install 3D ACIS Modeler

• Select Choose another app → More apps
• To finalize the process, select Look for another app on this PC entry and using the file explorer select the 3D ACIS Modeler installation folder. Confirm by checking Always use this app to open SAT files box and clicking OK button.

• From the drop-down menu, accessed by clicking the file with SAT extension, select Information
• Open the Open with section by clicking its name
• Select 3D ACIS Modeler and click Change for all...
• A message window should appear informing that This change will be applied to all files with SAT extension. By clicking Continue you confirm your selection.

Step 4. Check the SAT for errors

If you followed the instructions form the previous steps yet the issue is still not solved, you should verify the SAT file in question. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.

1. Verify that the SAT in question is not infected with a computer virus

If the SAT is indeed infected, it is possible that the malware is blocking it from opening. It is advised to scan the system for viruses and malware as soon as possible or use an online antivirus scanner. If the scanner detected that the SAT file is unsafe, proceed as instructed by the antivirus program to neutralize the threat.

2. Check whether the file is corrupted or damaged

If the SAT file was sent to you by someone else, ask this person to resend the file to you. During the copy process of the file errors may occurred rendering the file incomplete or corrupted. This could be the source of encountered problems with the file. When downloading the file with SAT extension from the internet an error may occurred resulting in incomplete file. Try downloading the file again.

3. Verify whether your account has administrative rights

Some files require elevated access rights to open them. Log out of your current account and log in to an account with sufficient access privileges. Then open the ACIS SAT 3D Model Format file.

4. Make sure that the system has sufficient resources to run 3D ACIS Modeler

If the systems has insufficient resources to open SAT files, try closing all currently running applications and try again.
