Step 1. Install Microsoft Works software

The most recent version of Microsoft Works is backward compatible and can handle file formats supported by older versions of the software.

Step 3. Associate Microsoft Works Database files with Microsoft Works

If you have the latest version of Microsoft Works installed and the problem persists, select it as the default program to be used to manage WDB on your device. The method is quite simple and varies little across operating systems.

• Choose the Open with entry from the file menu accessed by right-mouse clicking on the WDB file
• Next, select the Choose another app option and then using More apps open the list of available applications
• To finalize the process, select Look for another app on this PC entry and using the file explorer select the Microsoft Works installation folder. Confirm by checking Always use this app to open WDB files box and clicking OK button.

Change the default application in Mac OS

• By clicking right mouse button on the selected WDB file open the file menu and choose Information
• Find the Open with option – click the title if its hidden
• From the list choose the appropriate program and confirm by clicking Change for all....
• If you followed the previous steps a message should appear: This change will be applied to all files with WDB extension. Next, click the Continue button to finalize the process.

Step 4. Check the WDB for errors

Should the problem still occur after following steps 1-3, check if the WDB file is valid. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.

1. The WDB may be infected with malware – make sure to scan it with an antivirus tool.

Should it happed that the WDB is infected with a virus, this may be that cause that prevents you from accessing it. Scan the WDB file as well as your computer for malware or viruses. If the WDB file is indeed infected follow the instructions below.

2. Verify that the WDB file’s structure is intact

If the system is under havy load, it may not be able to handle the program that you use to open files with WDB extension. In this case close the other applications.

5. Check if you have the latest updates to the operating system and drivers
